Elon Musk’s X faces steep daily fines in Brazil for allegedly evading a ban on the service there, according to a statement from the country’s supreme court on Thursday.

Brazil’s Supreme Court has escalated its conflict with Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) and Starlink by imposing daily fines of about $920,000 for not following a ban on the social media platform in the country.

Elon Musk backed down and decided to comply with court orders in Brazil, an attempt to end a monthslong clash that culminated in million-dollar fines and the banning of his social network X in Latin America’s largest economy.

Brazil has fined Elon Musk’s X $920,000 per day after users briefly regained access to the platform after a ban.

In an abrupt reversal, the social network’s lawyers said it was complying with court orders that it had previously defied. Brazil’s Supreme Court could allow the site to return next week.
