The offense was clicking on all cylinders as head coach Billy Napier made use of both Graham Mertz and DJ Lagway at the quarterback spot. The Gators were able to put up over 500 yards of total offense and scored 45 points as they beat the Bulldogs 45-28.

Florida announced Napier’s hiring on the Sunday after the regular season ended, but he didn’t leave Louisiana immediately. He prepared as usual for the Ragin’ Cajuns’ upcoming Sun Belt Conference championship while spending his standard recruiting time working on the Gators’ roster/staff.

Napier was hired in November 2021 partly because he had a detailed plan for the Gators to close the gap on Alabama and Georgia in the powerhouse Southeastern Conference, which would also restore the program’s status as a legitimate national championship contender after being mostly an afterthought over the previous decade.
